Cosmic Treadmill ep. 80 - Batman: Digital Justice (1990) w/ Bob Rozakis!

March 4, 2018

Power on, comics enthusiasts! In this episode, Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) trip the LED light fantastic when they read the first all computer generated comic book, Pepe Merino's Batman: Digital Justice from 1990! After some biographical information and a quick aside about the first computer drawn comic book, our 'net-surfin' duo delve into this four chapter story of a dystopian future controlled by machines. Then, they talk about the manufacturing processes of comic books through the years, as a segue to an interview with one-time Production Director and comics creator, Bob Rozakis! It's more episode than could be contained on a CD-ROM, so sit back and enjoy the tale!

Cosmic Treadmill ep. 79 - WCW: World Championship Wrestling #1 (1992)

February 25, 2018

Good evening, comics enthusiasts, and let's get ready to rumble! This week, the tag team comic book podcasters Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) dive into an extreme era of professional wrestling when they read Mike Lackey and Ron Wilson's WCW: World Championship Wrestling #1, published by Marvel Comics in 1992! After some biographical information about the creators--and wrestlers!--and a brief, but detailed, history of WCW, they head right into the squared circle and describe the blow-by-blow of this issue. Then they'll talk about other wrestling comics, wrestling in comics, and comics in wrestling! It's not over until someone taps out or gets thrown in a casket, so sit back and enjoy the ride!

Cosmic Treadmill, ep. 7 - New Teen Titans: The Judas Contract

February 22, 2018

Another week... another episode from the "completionist collection".  Hey, if you've never listened to Cosmic Treadmill, Episode 25 (and shame on you, if that's the case) this one's New To You!

Take a trip back with Reggie (@reggiereggie) and Chris (@acecomics) to the days when the Titans took in the traitorous Terra!  They run down all of her appearances leading up to her betrayal... and go longform on the Judas Contract event.  After that, they chatter on about Terra's legacy... and at least one of them pops a few blood vessels at the very thought that she'd ever be brought back.  Jokes on him, many times over by this point!

Cosmic Treadmill ep. 78 - Avengers Spotlight #23 (1989)

February 18, 2018

Good evening, late-nite listeners! Heeeere's Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) bringing you another deep dive into a comic book, this one specially chosen by Aaron Anderson: Avengers Spotlight #23 from Marvel Comics! After the usual biographies for Howard Mackie, Al Milgrom, John Byrne and Kieron Dwyer, the Hollywood Kids read both stories contained in this issue--the second one of the first appearances of The Vision in his all-white look! Then they talk about an old rural discount chain from whence Aaron's issue derived, and wrap up with a list of superheroes that had arguably unfortunate changes to their standard costumes. Even one character that never really had a standard costume! It's a great show, ladies and gentlemen, we hope you'll tune in for the duration.

Cosmic Treadmill, ep. 3 - New Teen Titans #38 (Who is Donna Troy?)

February 15, 2018

Happy belated Valentine's Day folks... today Chris (@acecomics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) deliver a gift in the form of... well, the gift Terry Long wanted to give to Donna Troy... namely, finding out just who in the world she is!

We know what you're thinking... "Didn't we already get this one as part of Teen Titans Medley?" and the answer is, yes.  Unfortunately one of your Cosmic Treadmillers is a bit obsessive about the numbering (we won't reveal which one), and so you're getting it all by its lonesome.  Join us for a half-hour and revisit this beloved classic story.

Cosmic Treadmill ep. 77 - Heartbreak Comics (1984)

February 11, 2018

Hello and good day to you, comics enthusiasts! This week, our North American hosts Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) travel North of the border and read a tale of romance, betrayal, and tough-as-nails milkmen in Heartbreak Comics (1984) by David Boswell! After some biographical details and a brief introduction to the World's Toughest Milkman, they detail all 40 pages of Heartbreak Comics, including voices for all the strange characters in this world. After cleaning up some spilled milk, our pair deliver a history of Canadian comics dating back to the 18th Century and continuing almost to the present day! Plus: a piece of listener mail! It's better than a Tim Horton's Maple Claw! Okay, it's not that good, to be honest.

Cosmic Treadmill ep. 76 - Monster vol. 1 (1994)

February 4, 2018

Konichiwa, comics enthusiasts! This week, Chris (@AceComics) sends Reggie (@reggiereggie) into unfamiliar territory and tasks him with reading his first ever tankobon collection of manga: Naoki Urasawa's Monster vol. 1! Originally published in Japan in 1994, then translated and republished in North America in 2006, our fellows read all eight chapters of that first volume, after a creator bio and a very brief description of manga. Then, they tell the rest of the story, as detailed in seventeen further volumes, and conclude with a look at advancements in neuroscience that were not necessarily expected...or perhaps entirely warranted. It's a spooky gross-out of an episode, so be sure to listen with your significant other!

Cosmic Treadmill ep. 75 - Superman: Grounded (2010-2011)

January 28, 2018

Greetings, groundlings! In this episode, perambulators Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) lace up their most comfortable walking shoes to read Superman #700-714 (2010-2011) by J. Michael Straczynski and Eddy Barrows (among others), better known as the Superman: Grounded story arc! After the requisite bios and an out-of-date contest offer, we'll stroll right into the tale, beginning with a prologue that appeared in the landmark anthology issue Superman #700. Then they detail every single issue until the end of this volume, and wrap up with some commentary from critics and creators alike! Make sure to stay hydrated while listening to this episode to avoid cramping!

Cosmic Treadmill ep. 74 - The One #1 (1985)

January 21, 2018

Zdravstvuyte, comics enthusiasts! In this episode, Cold Warriors Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) tackle a very complicated comic book miniseries that deals with an even more complicated twentieth geopolitical situation when they read 1985's The One #1 by Rick Veitch! After a quick creator bio and a high school history refresher, they'll push past nuclear nightmares and read all of The One #1, lending their special talents to the issue. After a break, they recap every other issue in the series, and close out the Cold War with some comic books inspired by that worldwide anxiety that might have been contemporaries of Rick Veitch's series! It's going to be apocalyptic!
