Chris is on Infinite Earths, Episode 8: Young Justice #1 (1998)

January 9, 2019

Heyyy, look at us being all relevant and with the times!

On the very day Young Justice (vol.3) #1 is hitting the shelves, Chris (@acecomics) discusses the original Young Justice #1, by Peter David and Todd Nauck!  After positing a question to the folks about one's potential inability to "go home again" and fully-appreciate books of a certain era the way we used to, we synopsize and review the issue itself.

following the review, Chris takes advantage of this being the first episode of 2019 by reflecting on the "2018 Year in Cosmic Treadmill", and shares his Top Five episodes from 2018... that you might've slept on.

Cosmic Treadmill ep. 123 - My Hero Academia vol. 1 (2015)

January 6, 2019

Hello, brave heroes! In this episode, quirkless wonders Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) look at a popular manga series, created and produced by Kōhei Horikoshi: My Hero Academia vol. 1, released in North America in 2015! After a brief look at the budding creator Horikoshi, they dive right into the first six chapters of this weekly Shonen manga, compounding their usual embarrassment by mangling every Japanese name they encounter. After an international music break, our heroic hopefuls return to look at the phenomenon that is My Hero Academia, and talk about some other comic book-based schools...some which do not produce heroes as efficiently as U.A. High. Plus: correspondence with Jeremiah! The episode is sure to be Plus Ultra, don't miss it!

Cosmic Treadmill ep. 122 - The New Avengers (2005)

December 30, 2018

Happy novus annus, everyone! In this episode, the same-old consistent Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) check out an early Marvel relaunch of their flagship superhero team, and the career of one of comics' most prolific writers, when they read The New Avengers #1 by Brian Michael Bendis and David Finch from 2005! After a lengthy biography of BMB and some background on why the Avengers were "newed." After a break, our sticks-in-the-mud wrap up their biographies and look at some other "new" things at Marvel...which looked suspiciously familiar, even at the time. Everything new is old again in this episode, you don't want to miss it!

Chris is on Infinite Earths, Episode 7: JSA #55 (2004)

December 25, 2018

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas, Dear Listeners!

This time out, Chris (@acecomics) discusses a wonderful Christmas-themed issue featuring the Justice Society of America... and the return of one of the more unique Golden-Age characters.  After going through the issue, he tries (in vain) to qualify and affix the nebulous comic-reviewing metric known as "heart".

During the second half of the episode, Chris (the usual one) is once again joined by Chris Bailey (@Charlton_Hero), and together they share stories of Christmases long, long ago.  It's a great time as usual... give it a listen, if you have a free moment or thirty between tearing into all the goodies Santa left under your tree!

December 23, 2018

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all! In this episode, workshop janitors Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) read a seasonal favorite enjoyed for generations: DC Comics' Limited Collectors Edition #C-24 from 1973, aka New Giant Adventures of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer by Sy Reit and Rube Grossman! After some biographical information about our creators, and a look at how these oversized treasury editions came to be in the first place, our reindeer groomers read all three of the Rudolph stories in the book, following each twist and turn, no matter how inane. After a break, they talk about the rest of the Limited Collectors Edition line, including some titles that made it into other formats entirely! It's an episode sure to chase the seasonal doldrums away, don't miss it!

Reggie’s Comics Stories ep. 6 - R. Crumb is a Sexual Predator

December 19, 2018

Hey folks! In episode of Reggie's Stories, there's some personal recollections about Robert Crumb, a brief biography, and a reading of the essay "Robert Crumb is a Sexual Predator," as written by Kim O'Connor on her site The Shallow Brigade. It's superbly-written, and hopefully this reading does it justice. The episode wraps up with some final–or not-so-final–thoughts on Robert Crumb from Reggie himself. Give it a listen!

Cosmic Treadmill ep. 120 - Saved By the Bell Summer Break #1 (1992)

December 16, 2018

hey Hey HEY WHAT is going on here?? In this episode, matriculated students Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) check out one of their other shared interests...bordering on obsessions, when they read Harvey Comics' Saved By the Bell Summer Break #1 from 1992! After a deep dive into the secret origins and trappings of the television show, our Bayside Tigers provide biographies for creators Angelo de Cesare and Hy Rosen. Then, they read every goofy page of the comic, lending about the same level of talent to their voices as most of the actors brought to the show. After a break, they provide a brief history of Harvey Comics, before breezily talking about the show and devolving into fits of wheezing laughter. It's a show these knuckleheads couldn't wait to make, don't miss it!

Cosmic Treadmill ep. 119 - Star Wars #1 (1977)

December 9, 2018

Beep beep tweet, folks! In this episode, Nerf herders Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) look at some events that occurred some time in the past, in a remote corner of the universe, as depicted in Marvel Comics' Star Wars #1 by Roy Thomas and Howard Chaykin, published in 1977! After some biographical information about these legendary creators, and a little background information on how the deal was struck, they go through every page of the inaugural issue, butchering the voices as politely as possible. After a break, these rebel traitors return to wrap up their histories of Mr. Thomas and Mr. Chaykin, and wrap it all up by talking about how the comic book fared at Marvel going into the 1980s–including an aside about a giant green bunny? The episode is more fun than a barrel full of light sabers, you don't want to miss it!
