Cosmic Treadmill, Episode 149 - Collected Adventures of the Fabulous Furry Freak Bros. #1 (1971)

Greetings, smokers, tokers, and midnight chokers! In this, the penultimate episode of Chris and Reggie's Cosmic Treadmill, we look at one of Reggie's favorite underground comix, The Collected Adventures of the Fabulous Furry Freak Bros. #1 by Gilbert Shelton, first published in 1971 by Rip-Off Press! There's Shelton's bio, and some info about Rip-Off Press, and then we go through every panel of this 48-page zonkfest, attempting to keep it cool around the fuzz. After a few words from Gilbert Shelton himself, Chris and Reggie look at the history of some drugs in the United States--and marvel at the punitive measures against them! It's a (formerly) patron-only exclusive episode, so feel free to bogart it all you like.

For today's episode I am joined by a special HoX/PoX "tour guide", Jeremiah Jones-Goldstein (@bigox737) as we learn the final (?) fate of X-to-the-Second-Power... which is to say, the X-Men: Year 100 crew... as well as Moira the IX!

X-Lapsed, Episode 3 - House of X #2

Whatever happened to Moira X?
Join me as I get quite the education on the founder of the Muir Island Institute.  This is certainly a case of the old Marvel standby "Everything you thought you knew... was wrong!", but it's one that (despite some reservation) I'm having trouble getting mad at.
In House of X #2, we'll work our way through (most of) the ten lives of Moira Kinross... and discuss whether or not this game we're playing has any rules.  I'm trying not to get too attached to any of this, for fear that the rug might be yanked out from under me at any moment.

Welcome back to X-Lapsed... so far we've survived the experience!
Today we begin our look at the other of the "Two Series that are One", Powers of X.  Now, if I'm being honest, this was the half of the HoX/PoX event that initially caused me to tap out back in mid-to-late 2019.  This here issue is dealing with the far-flung future... and, if you know anything about my tastes... you'll know that's about as far out of my wheelhouse as the X-Men can go!

X-Lapsed, Episode 1 - House of X #1

You ever have one'a those reading projects you just can't seem to get around to?  Yeah, me too!  Today, I'm going to try and change that... with this new series that I'm calling X-Lapsed (and yeah, I totally know that sounds a lot like Ex-Lax!).
Despite having been a rabid reader of the X-Men for nearly three decades, I now find myself in the very bizarre position of a "new reader".  These characters might be familiar... but, I'm anything but comfortable with them!  Hopefully this reading exercise will help me get back into the X-Groove.
I hope you'll decide to join me on this little journey, as I fumble and stumble my way through HoX/PoX en route to the Dawn of X line-up!  If you have anything about the Dawn of X X-Men you wanna discuss, I'd love to chat... and hopefully learn a thing or two!

Morituri Mondays, Episode 27 - Strikeforce: Morituri #27 (3/89)

Whatever happened to the Morituri Master?
Today, in the first "official" issue of James D. Hudnall's "new direction", we find out all about what's been going on with Dr. Kimo Tuolema... and why he returned to Paideian employ.  Also, for the first time ever, we find out all about the origins of the Morituri formula... and see the Black Watch put through their paces!
Other topics discussed: Marvel's New Mutants film (which one of the Chris's saw, and the other didn't), whether or not there is an added-value measure that might one day make digital comics "collectible", Hollywood Squares alumnus (including and especially Jm. J. Bullock), snazzy Spider-Man jackets that definitely won't get you tossed in a locker, VCR board games, rude noises, and much much more.  It's a fun time as always... and, this might just be the last good "jumping on point" Strikeforce: Morituri gives us!

Cosmic Treadmill, Episode 148 - Wally Wood's Gang Bang #1 (1980)

Hello to our gorgeous patrons listeners!  Here's your "dirty" episode of Cosmic Treadmill for the month week--and boy, this one is filthy.  There's a pretty good bio of Wally Wood in here, with lots of quotes from friends and colleagues, and the main event... well, it's gross.  But we provide background on all the intellectual properties that get parodied, so it's almost educational!
It should go without saying, that... this will be a "spicy" episode, and listener discretion is strongly advised!  You'll get several warnings over the course of the first few minutes of the show... please heed them if you're concerned about looking like a weirdo listening to two grown men play-act several mature... err, creepy comic scenarios... with some classic characters!
