Hey everyone! This episode of Reggie's Comics Stories is a reading of Cullen Murphy's 2017 article for Vanity Fair, titled "When Fairfield County Was the Comic-Strip Capital of the World." Mr. Murphy is the author of Cartoon County: My Father and His Friends in the Golden Age of Make-Believe, a great book about cartooning and cartoonists in the mid-twentieth century. The essay is full of information about comics peddling, and anecdotes about some famous illustrators, here's hoping that you enjoy it!

Hello, o responsible listeners! In this episode, curious teenagers Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) look at a collaboration between Marvel Comics and Planned Parenthood in 1976: The Amazing Spider-Man vs. The Prodigy by Ann Robinson and Ross Andru! After some biographical info about the creators--the best that could be done under the circumstances--the promiscuous hosts look at the beginnings of Planned Parenthood and then read every page and panel of the comic book to hand. Then the pair let their hair down and check out the Second Sexual Revolution--that's the groovy one, folks. Finally, they wrap it all up with some terrific listener mail! It's an episode you'll want to share with your family--IF you choose or have chosen to have one!

Join your humble host (@acecomics) as he shares not only this story, but the story of traveling for his very own Graduation Day... and how this storyline haunted his troubled trip East. Learn that the only thing more dangerous than a malfunctioning Superman Android is... having to schedule blog posts to publish ahead of time, especially when the person writing them forgets how Time Zones work!
All this plus an important announcement about the future of the Chris is on Infinite Earths blog!

Cosmic Treadmill, Episode 127 - Superman #123 (1997)
Sunday Feb 03, 2019
Sunday Feb 03, 2019
Hello, denizens of Metropolis! In this episode, amateur electricians Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) read an issue of Superman in which he wasn't quite feeling himself: vol. 2 #123 from 1997, by Dan Jurgens and Ron Frenz! After some creator bios and a little backstory to explain how Superman contracted this condition, our technicians go through every page of this seminal issue, lending their vocal bleats and sarcastic commentary along the way. After a music break, our pair return to close out the bios for Jurgens and Frenz, and then talk about some other instances where Superman changed his look--usually not by choice! It's a transformative episode, you don't want to miss it!
Thanks to Lord Andy for suggesting the book!

Regge's Comics Stories ep. 9 - Terry Gilliam on Harvey Kurtzman
Wednesday Jan 30, 2019
Wednesday Jan 30, 2019
Hey folks! In this episode of Reggie's Comics Stories, I read an essay written by Terry Gilliam, alumnus of Monty Python's Flying Circus, about comics and humor legend Harvey Kurtzman, whom he worked for at Help! magazine during the 1960s! It originally appeared in the UK newspaper The Telegraph on July 10, 2009. Since this episode is a little short, I included an excerpt of an interview between Gilliam and VICE magazine from around the same time...in which he reiterates a lot of the same stuff. I hope you enjoy this look at how comics creators' influence can ripple out to influence some amazing people!

Cosmic Treadmill, Episode 126 - Spider-Man 2099 #1 (1992)
Sunday Jan 27, 2019
Sunday Jan 27, 2019
Greetings, futurists! In this episode, Alchemax janitors Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) head thirty-five years into the past...in order to rocket 107 years into the future when they read Marvel Comics' Spider-Man 2099 #1, written by Peter David and pencilled by Rick Leonardi in 1992! After some creator biographies and an explanation of how this concept came to be, our duo delve into every page of this landmark issue, lending their guttural growls and burps along the way. After a break, the pair return to finish off the creators' info and tell what happened to Marvel's 2099 line after this issue. And they wrap up with a look at some other comic book stories and properties that exist in the future––for that is where you and I would like to spend the rest of our lives! You don't want to miss it!

Chris is on Infinite Earths, Episode 9: Green Lanterns: Darkest Nights (2017)
Wednesday Jan 23, 2019
Wednesday Jan 23, 2019
This wasn't the episode you were supposed to be hearing today.
It was after randomly reading and reviewing this arc, that Chris (@acecomics) began to question his "analytical integrity" when it comes to how he covers comics on his personal blog. This two-parter calls back to some pre-Flashpoint continuity... and your host isn't sure if that changed the way he "received" it... so much so, that he's going to spend the better part of an hour raspily rambling about it!
Expect tangents about the continuity, numbered review scores, and USENET!

Cosmic Treadmill, Episode 125 - Black Hammer #1 (2016) + Jeff Lemire speaks!
Sunday Jan 20, 2019
Sunday Jan 20, 2019
Greetings, citizens of Spiral City! In this episode, embittered heroes Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) dip their toes into a brand-new superhero universe when they read Black Hammer #1 by Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston, published by Dark Horse Comics in 2016! After the necessary biographical information, our inter-dimensonal phase-shifters go through the entire issue, lending their voices to the proceedings. Then, after some thoughts on the issue and wrapping up Jeff Lemire's bio, we hear from Jeff himself! He talks all about how he got into comics, when he came up with the idea for Black Hammer, and lets us in on what's coming down the line. This episode is more fun than you can have without being trapped in the body of a nine year-old, you don't want to miss it!
