Wednesday Dec 12, 2018
Wednesday Dec 12, 2018
This week Chris (@acecomics) is joined by guest Patrick Kotenberg (@dcufanfam) to discuss the world-changing DC Universe Rebirth #1 from 2016. After Chris does his usual blibbuh blabbuh (emphasis on the "blabbuh" this time around) and walks through the issue, Patrick shares how he, as a new-to-DC fan received Rebirth, and how it kept him coming back to the comic shop week after week. It's a great time as usual, doncha dare miss it!

Cosmic Treadmill, Episode 119 - Star Wars #1 (1977)
Sunday Dec 09, 2018
Sunday Dec 09, 2018
Beep beep tweet, folks! In this episode, Nerf herders Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) look at some events that occurred some time in the past, in a remote corner of the universe, as depicted in Marvel Comics' Star Wars #1 by Roy Thomas and Howard Chaykin, published in 1977! After some biographical information about these legendary creators, and a little background information on how the deal was struck, they go through every page of the inaugural issue, butchering the voices as politely as possible. After a break, these rebel traitors return to wrap up their histories of Mr. Thomas and Mr. Chaykin, and wrap it all up by talking about how the comic book fared at Marvel going into the 1980s–including an aside about a giant green bunny? The episode is more fun than a barrel full of light sabers, you don't want to miss it!

How do you measure a pop-up imprint?

Hiya, folks! This week, Reggie (@reggiereggie) is reading three essays from the book Hey Kids, Comics!: True-Life Tales From the Spinner Rack, edited by Rob Kelly, published in 2013. Highlighting stories by Doug Slack, Steve Englehart, and Richard Harland Smith, Reggie provides a little background for each author before delving into their secret comic book origins. At the end, Reggie provides a little context for his own passage into comic book enthusiasm! It's a real love-fest of four-color funnybooks, don't miss it!

Sunday Dec 02, 2018
Sunday Dec 02, 2018
Hello, fershlugginer comics fans! In this episode, pratfall experts Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) take a look at the life of Harvey Kurtzman and the magazine that changed everything when they read MAD #4 from 1953! After a history of the publisher that begat the rag, they describe all four stories in the issue, providing some brief artist biographies, and concentrating their vocal abuse on "Supderduperman" and "The Shadow!" After a break, the Assistants to the Assistant Copy Boy continue discussing Kurtzman and MAD magazine, including the iconic logo and a certain gap-toothed fellow that hasn't a care in the world. This episode is sure to drive any parents buggy, you don't want to miss it!

Cosmic Treadmill Special: Young Animal "Gatherum", Episode 17
Thursday Nov 29, 2018
Thursday Nov 29, 2018
Greetings (for the second to last time), you Dangerous Humans! That's right, this is the penultimate installment on of our Young Animal Gatherum series of episodes. Doncha just love saying the word "penultimate"? Seems like the sort of word people use incorrectly all the time... like "prolific".
Am I rambling? Well, yes... because really, there isn't much to say here about the books we're reviewing this week. They are all *penultimate* issues, and the seams of truncation have become rather visible as our creative teams stomp on the brakes to get their stories wrapped up.

Wednesday Nov 28, 2018

Happy Belated Thanksgiving, Gentle Listeners!
This time out Chris (@acecomics) shares a sappy (and perhaps precious) story from his youth... during which he went from a powerful paperboy to humble odd-jobber, all in the name of keeping up with his favorite... and some new-to-him comics! And also, how and why this very issue never fails to remind him of Thanksgiving... or Thanksgiving Eve, mostly Thanksgiving though.

Greetings, oh Keepers of the Flame! Today, calendar-scrutinizing comics fans Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) conclude their look at the Green Lantern stories contained in DC Comics' Action Comics Weekly, in this episode covering issues #636 to #642, plus Green Lantern Special #2 by James Owsley, Dan Raspler and M.D. Bright! They go through every bizarre beat of these books, lending their raspy voices where applicable. Later, our Sunday-to-Sunday fellas look at some of the fallout from this weekly series; what happened to Malvolio and Priest, and other weekly series DC Comics has put out over the years. Plus...an alternate ending? The episode is full of mysteries and and goofy stuff...mostly goofy stuff. You don't want to miss it!
